HOW TEENY TINY TESTS WORK

Choose one skill students have practiced and create one question about that concept. Write it on the board or print it onto sticky notes. Students answer independently, then submit their responses for review.

This supported skill check gives students an opportunity to correct errors while giving you a grade and formative assessment information. Use their responses to plan additional practice or reteaching. Repeat the check with new examples to see whether students apply the skill with less support. A linked Google Sheets can help you track your students’ responses.

CUSTOMIZE FOR YOUR STUDENTS

Use the same-question templates for a shared instructional target. Choose the different-question templates when students or groups are working on different skills.

The included syllable-type example provides a starting point. Create additional questions for vocabulary, morphology, syntax, comprehension, or other concepts you teach.

MORE WAYS TO USE YOUR TEMPLATES

Prepare exit slips, short rubrics, positive notes, student reminders, or notes for your teaching materials. The templates can support reading intervention, small groups, special education, tutoring, and instruction across subjects.

PLEASE NOTE

This resource includes templates, instructions, and a sample syllable-type question sheet. It is not a complete assessment question bank. Teachers create additional prompts to match their instruction.

Only the designated PDF fields are fillable. A Canva template link provides an additional editing option. Sticky notes and a printer are needed to print directly onto notes.
