Genre Labels for Classroom Library

Take your classroom library to the next level by using genre labels! These genre labels for your classroom library explain what each is!

The set contains both thin (for book trays) and larger (for book bins) labels in both color and black and white. That means you can print in color or print on colored paper.

The labels are colored by categories, but the black and white versions can be printed on colored paper to meet your needs. We’ve included a few “weird” genres, based on the books striving middle school students read, such as Sports Information or Sports Fiction.

Labels include:

Genres: fiction, nonfiction or informational, argumentative, poetry (colored teal)

Subgenres:

Nonfiction (colored gray): argumentative, humor (true or collections, such as a riddle book), (true) adventure, informational, narrative nonfiction, autobiography, biography, memoir, reference, (true) mystery, science information, history information, sports information, persuasive (can also go with argumentative genre), essay, speech

Fiction (colored green)fantasy, realistic fiction, science fiction, historical fiction, adventure, traditional literature, tall tale, fable, fairy tale, legend, myth, sports fiction, mystery, humor, thriller / crime, classics, series

Formats: poetry, novel, graphic novel, picture book, poetry, reference, short story, drama (colored blue)
