Description
We’ve all seen it – students who fill in plot lines in the order of a story without really thinking about conflict or understanding the role of plot line components. Students may not even be able to tell all the parts of the plot line. Read this blog post to help you teach conflict, then head over to plot diagram interventions (also available in a bundle with this item). Finish with plot diagram manipulatives – linear and nonlinear – to practice and solidify learning.
Striving readers need manipulatives to cement these concepts. These Plot Diagram – linear and nonlinear – cards and definitions for literary text make that happen! Each card comes in nine colors:
- gray
- blue
- teal
- light green
- dark green
- orange

We have used these for YEARS to build understanding of plot diagrams. We incorporate sticky it notes to chart stories and to create new ones. Ours are printed in all colors, and students choose their favorite to create their plot diagram. Our students enjoy the larger format, too, rather than small pieces that have to be cut / glued. With nearly 350 pages from which to choose, we make creating manipulatives easy!
