Description
Based on The Writing Revolution, this flip book walks your students through the steps of creating advanced sentences, including:
- Writing a sentence kernel,
- Adding 2 prepositional phrases,
- Creating an appositive,
- Adding a clause,
- then editing and illustrating.
The flip book form makes the tasks manageable and is a great way to introduce the concepts that create advanced sentences. Just copy the pages two sided as shown in the detailed instructions, then trim, stack, and staple. The books are blank on the back for displaying, adhering to an interactive notebook, or for copying their peers’ sentences. Spend some time reading and sharing the student sentences for the most engagement!
And when students can write advanced sentences, they can comprehend advanced sentences, so this activity helps your students with reading comprehension, too!
Great for interventions, introducing advanced sentences, content areas, and for reviewing before grammar / writing assessments. Model sentence included, but since students will be creating their sentences to mimic the example, no answer key is included.
Complete the flip book in one day, or stretch it out over several lessons. An explanation of each step is included but can be further developed to cover multiple days.
Finally, complete the analogy by popping kernels of popcorn into large pieces as students share their final sentences! Now that’s something worth celebrating!
