Description
Teaching suffixes is one of the most efficient ways to help older struggling and striving readers make faster progress with multisyllabic decoding, spelling, and vocabulary—especially as texts become more packed with academic language in upper elementary, middle school, and high school.
There are 150+ suffixes in English, but memorizing long lists isn’t effective for many struggling readers. Instead, this resource focuses instruction and practice on the most common, highest-impact suffixes—the ones students will see again and again in real reading. (In fact, focusing on common affixes can help students tackle the majority of morphologically complex words they encounter—often cited as up to 93% of words that use roots and affixes.)
This set is designed to be age-appropriate and flexible: use it for quick daily word work, small-group intervention, stations, tutoring, or structured literacy practice.
